wonton soup

so i like to cook and bake, and lately have made a lot of meals. so i figure why not share the ones that were extra delicious! and honestly, the picture i took below i don't like, and it doesn't look near as good as it did in real life. the lighting in my box of a house at night is terrible, plus i still don't have a legit camera (tear-workin' on it). but, you should make this and you will not be sorry!

wonton soup

ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onion
  • 10 cups canned chicken broth
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • chop some cabbage and toss it in
  • about 30 wonton wrappers, thawed if frozen
  •
  • directions:
  • in a large soup pot heat the oil over medium high heat until hot.
add 1 tablespoon of the garlic and 1 tablespoon of the ginger (this is only half of what recipe calls for, rest comes later).
cook, stirring until fragrant for 1-2 minutes.
add the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
reduce heat to medium low so broth simmers.
    add the green onion.
simmer broth for 20-30 minutes while wontons are being assembled.

    now to making the wontons.
in a small mixing bowl, combine the remaining teaspoon of minced garlic and and tablespoon of ginger.
add the pork, egg yolk, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and
crushed red peppers and mix thoroughly. this is the meat mixture you pack into the wonton wrappers.

lay out a few wontons at a time on plastic wrap - fill a small bowl with cool water and set aside. using a teaspoon measure, place a heaping teaspoonful of the meat filling in the center of each wonton. wet the edges of the wonton and bring the corners together to form a triangle, and close edges.

gently add the wontons to the simmering broth. increase heat slightly so broth continues to simmer and cook stirring until wontons float to top.
in about 5 minutes you're ready to serve and eat!
