the pumpkin patch

October is one of my all time favorite months. It makes me want to eat all things pumpkin all day long and cozy up to some Netflix. But living in San Diego, just like it was in Hawaii, it's freakin' hot! Definitely not like my Idaho falls growing up and El Nino ain't helpin' us out. So to help feel the holiday spirit I decided in the beginning of October to go to a pumpkin patch at least once a week. Being a nanny definitely makes this an easy task.

Last week my sister Megan and her family were here visiting. Since it was the week of Halloween, we decided to take Van and the kiddos to the pumpkin patch near our apartment. Watching Van get his face painted for the first time was so adorable! He was so uncertain and nervous, but he did it and loved his fishy face. The best part was definitely the face he made when he checked himself out in the tiny mirror. He looked so perplexed.

After the kids got their crazies out in the bounce houses, nothing sounded better than cozying up to some cookies. That night we had our own little Halloween party. We made pizzas that looked like ghosts and lots of delicious sugar cookies to decorate. We listened to Halloween music and watched a spooky kid movie before putting Van and Liv to bed. It was the perfect Halloween day :).

meant to be three

Lately I've been pondering the concept that I am a triplet. I know that sounds weird, because duh, I was born this way and it's most certainly not news. But I often think about it if I were a singlet looking at a triplet and how odd that would be. I can't blame others for staring at us like we are aliens, cause in a way we are rather interesting creatures + we look the same. But something about that 'different' makes me feel the 'same'. We are each unique and must embrace ourselves and love all that we are.

Growing up I despised how people grouped us as one human being. Classmates never got to know our names, or even cared to try. Teachers didn't even bother trying to tell us apart and coaches constantly got us mixed up. It didn't matter how different we made our hair or chose to dress. People used to judge us pre-maturely without knowing us, thinking we didn't need any one else because we had each other. All these things come with being a multiple, it's just life. There's always a con to the pro. Because people are just people. We accept what is in front of us and make the most of it. I've learned with maturity how to navigate these concepts of what used to drive me insane.

I'll never forget the two days I lost my marbles out of triplet frustration. I yelled at our band teacher and English teacher (on separate days and years) for grouping us as the "Flys" during role call. You see, if we ever had a class with a sister or both sisters, teachers would ALWAYS do that. They would ask if the Flys were here. I couldn't hold in my frustration anymore and had to take a stand. I immediately blurted, "We are not one person! We each have our own names. Call us individually like everyone else or I won't answer!" Haha, the shocked faces my friends shot me were priceless. I think to some multiples they wouldn't care. But maybe I'm just spicy, cause it drove me crazy. The last thing us sisters ever wanted was to dress the exact same, walk the exact same, be the exact same, have the exact same everything, swap boyfriends, and be treated like one human. We did not want to live up to the stereotypes multiples are far too often labeled with.

I'm grateful that throughout adulthood we have learned how to navigate these silly triplet struggles while remaining true to ourselves. I am also learning that our differences and similarities as individuals and triplets are to be celebrated. As we have grown older we often find ourselves saying things to each other like, "Well, I just want to be like you!" Now isn't that just ridiculous haha. I guess things always eventually come full circle. Being a triplet is all I know and I am proud of who I am, as we should all be about ourselves. These two sisters of mine are my world and I'm so grateful we came in a package of three. I love them with all that I am, and hate that we live apart. Praying one day our paths reunite and we can live as neighbors like we dreamt of as kids.

otter rock surfy surf

This little gem of a beach is on the Oregon Coast. The waves are the perfect size for my liking and its all sand bottom yumminess. This day in particular was rarely divine because the sun gods (pun intended---sterling spencer) granted us with clear blue skies and warmer waters. I mean don't get me wrong, Oregon's ocean is always nippy haha, but I survived without a hood and gloves this time. Ky and I paddled out with our brothers and had a grand time pretending we knew what was up. And you wonder why there are never photos of us actually surfing? Two reasons. One, the water was freezing and no one was willing to swim with a go pro. And two, our surf pics are boring status and I'm not afraid to admit it. Okay, the end!

to my sisters

Dear Ky and Megs,

You are literally the best things ever.
You make me laugh. You make sure I look good.
You love me even when I'm annoying and you make sure I'm always nice.
You tell me you like my hair and I tell you I like your face.
You make me laugh harder than anyone and even laugh at my lame jokes.
We have the best time together and can talk about high school and college all day.
Skiing together makes us giddy little girls and it's hilarious.
Our husbands are all great friends which is a true miracle and blessing.
You let me steal your clothes and baby (Meg).
You love me even when I hang up on you in mid conversation due to distractions.
You help calm my worries and fill me with positivity.
You let me adorn you in my Seamaid jewels and in turn I get free photos and Feral for life.
You think I'm the coolest and I think you're the coolest.
You still love me even though I'm way behind on reading your blogs.
We have the world's best road trips and adventures.
I love you sisters. Know one knows me quite like you do.
So grateful I'm your triplet sis.

xo,

Lis, Lissy, Lossy or Lee Lee (take your pick)

I love my sisters. I love that Megan is prego with baby #2 and I love even more that it's a girl. I feel like her babies are my babies and Kylie can agree. I love that Kylie lives in LA so we can meet up once or twice a moth for fun adventures. I love that we have face times that can easily last four hours with endless conversation.

My sisters are my best friends and without them I would be a sad little girl. I'm so grateful I was in Idaho for Thanksgiving and got to see them. Plus, I have some exciting news to share soon regarding our travel blog that we feel so blessed to be a part of, so stay tuned!
