memorial day

memorial day was amazing. it was seriously a non-stop adventure from place to place. we grabbed some friends, our boards, picnic lunches, and hopped in our cars and headed to the far east side of the island, towards kailua. we stopped by lanikai beach as planned and debated paddling out to the moku islands, but unfortunately the winds were terrible and the tide was too high so it was a no go.

our next stop was spitting caves near koko head, a place i have heard lots about but still never been. it is unreal. if you're curious watch this youtube video to get an idea. i cannot believe the people that are brave enough to jump off of that huge cliff which is probably around 55 feet or more! chase jumped from the highest peak when i wasn't ready, so i didn't even get to capture it on camera or video dang it. the pictures i did get above don't even get close to capturing its insane-ness. but helplessly watching chase jump off that thing into a deep-dark-angry-blue abiss, and him swimming and trying to time everything just right amongst all the waves with high tide pounding the huge rock cliffs, the rip, and shooting water out of the cave -- seriously had me cringing. my heart was pounding in my chest, i seriously was so scared it was ridiculous haha. but i trust my husband and knew he would make it and be fine, and he did.

we then headed to china walls which was conveniently close to spitting caves. this was also my first time hanging out there. i love discovering new places to visit on this island, it seriously is endless. this had about a 10 ft. jump into the water from flat rock, so wasn't bad at all. but it got a lot higher when the tide pulled out. the water was nice and deep, and beautiful royal blue with absolutely nothing to fear except knowing how to get out of the water and back onto the cliff. we all had a few good jumps and enjoyed basking in the sun like lizards.
