my wall art

yay i finally finished! i have been working on this diy project for quite some time now. i put more thought into this than expected, and couldn't wait to see how it turned out. i had these two canvases given to me by a friend on my wall for quite some time, that were covered in that striped fabric. i removed the fabric a while back and made some headbands, remember HERE. then i moved on to the next step, painting one of the canvases (still have one left for next project)! i wanted to paint something that looked very "us" to hang above our bed, but simple enough that it wouldn't turn out to be a disaster.

honestly, i am not a great artist when it comes to detail, but i have always loved to color. when my sisters and i were little we would happily color for hours and i would press my crayons really hard so the picture would be completely colored in and nice and bright. i then outlined everything with bold black lines to make it pop! i like simple things with lots of space to color. which turned out to work really well since i have discovered the surf artist heather brown here on the north shore. i love her painting style because it is simple, bright, and happy . . . and not to mention required similar techniques to how i have always drawn. so i found a picture of hers i liked (ohana surf) and changed it up a bit and made it mine. and this is what i came up with! it looks so cute on our wall and always makes me smile to know that i actually made something pretty.

the process was a blast. with the help of my friend carrie i was able to get the perfect sized paper and a cool lead pencil thingy to sketch it out on paper and press onto the canvas and re sketch to know where to paint. the process took some time, but i was more than happy to stay at home and paint while watching desperate housewives and lipstick jungle. it really was great and i can't wait to paint some more, i have a few ideas up my sleeve!
