my rad grad

 CHASE GRADUATED!

Wow, being done with college is a goooooood feeling. I am so proud of my husband for completing his business marketing degree. By the way, Hawaii graduations are the BEST ever.  Not only do you get a ba-jillion awesome leis from family and friends (my fav of which are candy obviously), but you get to listen to the graduate announcer try and pronounce some of the most difficult names in hundreds of languages from around the globe. It's serious business.

A few days ago Chase received his diploma in the mail and with his 'matter of fact' voice he said, "This is what you get for going to college, a piece of paper! Lets burn it!" Hah jokes! Sooooo, maybe it was due to a low moment in our post grad journey and job search (hehe). We have recently moved to Encinitas and are both looking for jobs. It is a rather difficult road and it seems that everything requires "experience," "a masters," "further certifications," "un-paid internships," etc. You get my drift, I'm sure a lot of you have been there. It's times like these where we need to remind ourselves, going to college is never a waste of time. The knowledge you gain is tremendous, the experiences you have are life changing, and the amount you grow as a person is infinite. Having a college degree opens doors to many opportunities that otherwise may only be granted by good timing or luck. We are grateful for our college degrees and are excited to see where they will lead us. And college is seriously so much fun. I can't imagine what my life would have been without it.

For now, Chase and I look back at our pictures of Hawaii and reminisce about our good ole' college days (as if it was so long ago - - - wink). They truly were the best, and lets be honest, the easiest days of our lives. It's funny that while you are in college it often seems like never-ending torture. But then when you are graduated life gets real serious and things really come into perspective. The life of having a set schedule with beach breaks in-between and a few work hours a day turn into long days of job searching and trying to survive (hah). Oh life, you're so funny.

the sandy life

sandy beach park is on the south shore and is one of the best spots for body boarders and skim boarders on the island. whenever chase and i go there the beach is packed and the water is even more packed. to be honest, i have only gotten in and actually swam around there once. i usually just wade my feet because the waves are always gnarly and i'm not a fan of getting my body flipped around like a rag doll while banging heads with a stranger, only to leave with a headache and saggy bottoms and sandy hair. but i enjoy watching chase master the waves and catch a few barrels.

and to catch up on life, school just started up again for chase on monday. it's the second half of his summer semester, fall starts in september. byu-hawaii has kind of a funny track system. but now he is busy with school alongside work and i am on the hunt for a "real" job so i can quit my campus job. i have a few i'm gonna be checkin out, so i will be sure to keep you updated.

until then i will continue working 3-4 days a week, cooking/baking, going to the gym, playing with friends who aren't too busy, and going to the beach. oh and doing stuff around the house. i swear i have multiple endless to do lists that can be overwhelming because there is always something to do or work on. and i have a craft idea i want to do and a possible hobby i want to experiment pursuing hehe. it's the good life.

next step

oh byu-hawaii. you have been so good to me. you allowed me to finish college with a degree i enjoy and aspire to find my niche in the world. you allowed me to meet amazing people and understand the true meaning of diversity. you allowed me to gain a stronger testimony of the gospel and increase my faith. you allowed me to learn how to share everything even when no one asks. you allowed me to learn how to live with very little and not stress so much about things being dirty and not working well (houses, cars, appliances, bikes). you allowed me to explore your island and learn your culture. you allowed me to fall in love with the sea. you allowed me to learn what its like to go to an outdoor school. you allowed me to meet my meant to be dream hubby. you allowed me to branch out and become independent and passionate. now what's next? that's up to me.

mahalo, for everything.

leis of love

graduating in hawaii is the best. and you can easily see why. once you walk outside you get showered with beautiful handmade leis of floral and candy and money and whatever you can think of stringing on a necklace. friends, family, and faculty are there to congratulate you and wish you the best. lots of pretty flowers, candy, and an awesome halo...nothin' beats it.

below are a bundle of pictures that i just love. these are people i don't want to forget. coming to school here has allowed me to meet and become close friends with people from all over the globe. a benefit of attending such a small university with less than 20 students in most classes. some of these people i will never see again. and this makes me sad. from the states, to canada, to asia, mexico, the polynesian islands, africa, central america, south america, and europe. it truly is unbelievable. you will always be remembered.
aloha 'oe. until we meet again . . .

graduation day

everyone keeps asking me how i feel now that i am graduated. and i always struggle with an answer. i feel the same way about graduating that i do about being a triplet. cool i guess! it finally happened for me, so i am elated. although on graduation day i kept having high school flash backs, but this time i was wearing black instead of gold, and i was a lot more proud of my academic efforts. oh and chase was singing the graduation song by head automatica to me all day, so hilarious.

i couldn't have gotten this far without the help of my family and of course my hubby chase. i worked really hard in school and am grateful my efforts paid off. now lets see how the real world likes me. eep! hopefully my internship will open some doors. it starts on monday...
you would think graduating in hawaii would take place outside. but nope, all indoors. but luckily afterwards you get to all walk outside to your designated areas and be showered with love. hawaii seriously knows how to party. more on that to come!

aloha 'oe

this past weekend was an amazing one. i graduated college!! to start off the happenings, the school threw a graduation celebration dinner. all of the graduates were able to gather with their friends and families and enjoy a nice hawaiian style dinner, while enjoying some entertainment from the islands. i love watching performances through song and dance from our fellow island friends. all the way from tonga, tahiti, fiji, samoa, cayman islands, marshall islands, kiribati, to hawaii and all over asia. i will never forget my experiences here at this unviersity full of its extreme diversity from countries i couldn't even locate on a map before here. thank you byu-hawaii, for teaching me all about the world in which i live. oh, and for giving me a great education!

this is the most beautiful and well known hawaiian song ever, aloha 'oe. it was written by princess lili'uokalani and has become the most traditional farewell song of the islands. every time i sing it my body fills with shivers and good feelings. and this time it was for me. best feeling ever.
