i hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving, i know i did. while on the page of gratitude, i thought i would share some good news. my friend jess (pictured in gray) and i got together and decided to throw a bake sale last week in effort to raise money to donate directly to the hurricane sandy relief fund. and we are glad we did.
with lots of planning, hard work, tons of baking, and plenty of helping hands we were able to raise around $1,000! can you believe it? we were ecstatic and exceeded our expectations by a long shot. jess mailed a lovely check to the salvation army where every penny will be spent to help our friends on the east coast. none of this would have been possible without all the support from our amazing friends, community, professors, and fellow students with baking, buying, donating, and eating. so a huge thank you to all!
now imagine the money that could be raised if every small community threw a bake sale (wink). after all, the holidays have begun! it truly feels great to know we played a small part in helping those in need, even from a tiny island in the pacific.
ps, happy black friday! we didn't shop today although tempted. i guess last years experience HERE scared us away. hope you all have a great weekend!
Thankfully we are fully restored here in Connecticut but our stake presidency has been busing us to the Rockaways every weekend to help with relief efforts. They are still without power (going on a month here!) and aren't expected for it to be restored until at least the first week of December. They're low on gasoline, water supply, food, and shelter. We've been doing a lot of demolition and clean up work of flood damaged basements. People have lost everything. It's truly horrific. Thank you so much for all that you are doing to help us out here on the east coast! You're the sweetest.
