the cool pools of guadalupe

When you camp at Guadalupe Oasis, you have the option of hiking to a couple of cool pools up the canyon. Chase and I made this trip over Memorial Day weekend in May, so it was super hot and the latest I would ever go (you've been warned). The cool pool was definitely what we needed, so we took on the hot desert hike with happy thoughts of cooling off in the waterfalls we gawked online while planning this trip.

Unfortunately, when we got to the lower of the two pools it was disgusting. Overtaken by moss and water snakes, no waterfall, dirty, and not enough water. The drought just sucked that thing for what it was worth. So we kept on hiking to the furthest pool. Honestly, I don't remember how long it took but I would give yourself a solid half day for this adventure, if not morning into early afternoon. We weren't tracking miles, but it was lengthy. By the time we got to the top pools we were relieved to have finally make it! Heat can be annoying so definitely visit here in the winter ;). At the top pool, there was enough water and even a trickle of a falls! IT FELT SO GOOD to finally cool off and sun bathe on the warm rocks. We only ran into one other couple the entire weekend so felt stoked to have the pool to ourselves for most of the day.

The great thing about this top pool, are the amazing views and privacy. While there, we saw cute little mountain goats on the cliffs. It was beautiful to see the little guys hopping around so effortlessly. We also saw a hawk and lots of lizards. If you do this, definitely pack a back pack with food, water, a towel, hiking sandals, and a floatie. The floatie is so worth it once you're up there. I loved the desert oasis vibes, and I think you will too!

winter ski season

This ski season has been awesome. I feel lucky that we get up to the mountain as often as we do. We went to Bear once in December and have surprisingly made it to Mammoth three times! Chase and I make great efforts to do what we love and it's not always convenient. Getting off work at 5 on Friday and driving 8+ hours in California traffic never sounds ideal. But sometimes arriving somewhere in middle of the night is worth it for a good Saturday shred sesh. We spend a lot of our winter weekends driving so we can ski. Whether we stay in a motel or splurge on a condo the night we drive up, we always make it a good time. Grateful this winter was a lot better then the last and gave us some good pow days!

trestles hurley pro

The Hurley Pro is held here in San Clemente every year at Trestles. We went to one of the days with our nephew Krew and Chase's brother Cameron. Krew is such a cutie, love seeing how excited he gets to see Kelly Slater. He loves that guy!! One day Chase and I hope to follow the world surf league and travel the whole time. Dreamin' big here ;).

table rock beach

Laguna Beach, CA | July 2014
This summer Chase took me to one of the most beautiful beaches I've been to since moving to California. It's called Table Rock. If you are ever visiting San Diego you definitely gotta go here! There is a beautiful reef that brings a nice swell in that reminded me a lot of Hawaii. Plus there are awesome caves you can explore at low tide. I remember grabbing a fish taco from across the street and sitting in the sand as the waves rushed up my legs thinking, "This is the life." Feeling blessed to live in such a beautiful place by the sea. Definitely counting my blessings.

my birthday in joshua

This year on Memorial Day I turned the big 27! I really feel like that is old. I know I'm still young, but seriously whose with me? How did my late 20's sneak up so fast, I can hardly believe it. It's funny how time flies and I still feel  like my little 18 year old self on the inside. Life is always an adventure and full of surprises and I'm so grateful I get to spend mine with my best friend at my side. We are aging together nicely haha.

Chase planned this whole fun weekend for us to celebrate my birthday and Memorial Day at the same time. We spent the weekend camping and exploring in Joshua Tree and Memorial Day at the beach and BBQing with friends. Lucky for me this year my birthday actually fell on Memorial Day so everyone had the day off of work to party with us, win win!

Joshua Tree is a rad place. The town is small and funky and the park is amazing. Those cute little joshua trees everywhere are so fun and there are lots of boulders and places to explore and hike around. I think Chase and I should explore this whole rock climbing world a bit, maybe next time. Around dusk, we found our own campsite and loved every bit of it. Nothing beats waking up with the sun and a hubby cookin' me some pancakes, yum! I'm so grateful for my husband and his adventurous soul and all the spoiling he did for my birthday. Can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve for my 28th next year ;)!!!
